The term Hospitality is itself a big industry that involves different kinds of fields to dealing as well as deliver quality services to consumers to fulfill their needs or requirement. Services which involved in hospitality are accommodation, housekeeping, Food, beverages, etc. Now, Tourism is a part of hospitality, where it usually offers services related to traveling for pleasure and enhancing the quality of adventurous experiences for consumers (Bhatia, Roy, and Kumar, 2022). The report, focuses primarily on hospitality and tourism sustainability, with the goal of discussing how tourism is affected by post- and pre-COVID-19 situations or lockdowns. More to highlight changing ing people’s livelihood through the impact of government and ethical issues in tourism within Australia. This entire report is based on an Airbnb case study and how they can help tourism businesses recover after a lockdown.
Ethical Governance issues usually refer to the values and ethical behaviors which indicate processes, procedures, and cultural ways of doing as being part of ensuring high standard performance economy, effectiveness, efficiency, and quality (Capocchi et al., 2019). These aspects highlight the segments about how business is working in governmental rules and regulations. In to reference of Australian tourism where Airbnb Company indicates some ethical and governing problems that arise:
· Distribution of Income: In the tourism and Hospitality industry, there is a lot of money, and it is itself a profitable business. Therefore, the income is rarely distributed and the government mainly has a role to increase GDP from the tourism and hospitality business. Apart from it, more employment is also generated by tourism and hospitality. However, there was a significant decrease in employment and business in the tourism industry during the lockdown (Duro, and et. al., 2021). Even though the government was also not able to generate money from it because there were strict rules like not many gatherings of people, and international flights were closed. One can also get Hospitality management assignment help.
· Environmental Destruction: This issue emphasizes the ethical stakeholder's need to ensure that any environmental damage is minimized. However, during COVID-19, Airbnb was placed under lockdown due to a virus that was destroying both human health and the environment. As a result, people avoid visiting places and become isolated. Probably, the government devised some guidelines advising people not to travel to foreign countries due to the presence of viruses everywhere.
· Lack of Employment and impact on tourism culture: Due to the high impact of Covid-19, many tourism relates jobs get affected. People are suffering from health and unemployment due to a lack of tourism business. Somehow, there was a direct impact on the tourism culture of not having public appearances. For all of these reasons, countries such as Australia have suffered significant losses in the hospitality and tourism industries.
As per a case study of Airbnb, CEO Brain Chesky has suffered from Lockdown in his tourism business for not having public appearances in foreign countries through their services. During the lockdown, the tourism business was, directly and indirectly, get affected as the government rules were circulated banning international flights and domestic as well. With this, Airbnb is not able to provide their services of tourism management. But Chesky wants to change the Airbnb website slogan from “where you want to goâ€. But instead of that, Chesky is the only one who is responsible for his business strategy. In spite of changing the content of his Airbnb website, he must focus on how to connect less audience towards tourism within safe and secure protocols. There are some problems that indicate how Airbnb lack to connect their business profit:
· The website Airbnb was not properly upgraded, and people are not showing much interest in it
· In the time of Lockdown, Brain Chesky must focus on local or domestic trips. Because of this, Airbnb is providing international trips where the government has circulated strict rules to not promote international trips (Dash. and Sharma, 2021). Therefore, Airbnb faces massive trip cancellations due to the heavy Covid-19 impact.
· There was a lack of market research by the Airbnb Team, as their competitors were able to generate a better profitable tourism business.
· Chesky needs to work on their online application of Airbnb where there needs to work on optimization where people would get more information regarding tourism.
· Moreover, Chesky assume and observe that tourism is creating more upgrade in an industry where people are going to the same place at the same time (Buitrago and Yñiguez, 2021). Chesky needs to solve this problem where he needs to work on a website where people get split destinations in different locations through Airbnb Application. Providing more services in that application such as upgrade rooms, outfits as per destination, and accommodation buys through investors with popular tourist regions.
· Due to having strict rules of government in Covid-19 it is also one of the main issues to generate tourism business. For this Chesky had researched that many homeless people are there for them he planned to provide houses by name of Airbnb at no cost.
On the basis of the study and identifying problems where Airbnb and Brain Chesky who is the CEO face issues to recertify. There are three main recommendations that need to mention on how to manage the tourism business:
Airbnb must improve its online application, which must include the COVID-E certification option. With this update, people can feel satisfied and the company will also provide better tourism services.
To increase the size of the research team in order to identify the gaps that Airbnb had. Provide them with more Training and development to enhance their skills.
For example, in the Middle East, such as the UAE, the government has issued strict rules requiring people to wear masks and show their vaccination certificates (Romagosa, 2020). This exercise can help Airbnb to promote tourism in Australia.
From the above report, it is been concluded that Hospitality and Tourism business suffered due to the heavy lockdown and pre as well as post-Covid-19 situation. There are some political ethical and governance issues highlighted related to tourism such as environmental destruction, lack of employment, etc. The main issues which Airbnb is responsible for not generating their business of tourism are also addressed. At last, there are main recommendations that can help to improve Airbnb's business.
